iPhone X Plus, iPhone SE 2 to get bigger in 2018

TrendForce’s report states that the midrange iPhone SE2 will have a bigger display with an LCD panel.
The iPhone X has received a warm response from the world, despite some cribbing about its notch and the exorbitant price tag on its box. However, as with every new

technology, the newer features will eventually trickle down to the affordable models. With this idea, rumours about the next generation iPhones are already adrift in the world of smartphones and the latest one might bring some good news for those who have been looking for some of the iPhone X’s features on a budget — the midrange iPhone SE 2 could be coming with an iPhone X-esque narrow-bezel display.

the new iPhone SE 2 might be ditching its small 4-inch display in favour of a larger 6.1-inch display with considerable narrow bezels than the current model. The prediction, which has been made by Trend Micro, also states that the iPhone X might also get a bigger ‘Plus’ variant with a 6.2-inch display. However, as Nikkei points out, the difference between the iPhone X Plus and the iPhone SE 2 will be the display panel — the former will use an OLED panel whereas the latter will utilise an LCD display. The SE 2 might also retain its metal rear panel from the old iPhones, meaning that it will skip on wireless charging to keep the price low.

Additionally, the report also mentions that the flagship iPhone X and iPhone X Plus will also bring in the second generation of FaceID, which will naturally be more improved than the current technology. These expensive models will also be coming with new storage options, possibly with 512GB for the most expensive variant.

“iPhone X sparked a heated discussion in 2017, but iPhone's production volume increased by only 3 per cent over 2016 due to the technical barriers in improving yield rate of innovative models. With regard to the supply chain, new iPhones in 2018 will continue to improve Face ID technology, screen to body ratio, etc., moreover, the company plans to increase the memory content and embed AMOLED display in two of its models. In terms of biometric recognition, iPhone will continue to feature Face ID while other brands will use mainly capacitive fingerprint sensors in the first half of 2018 due to existing technical barriers,” says the report.

Do note that this is still a rumour, which means that these predictions could largely be false. However, if Apple adopts these predictions for the iPhone SE 2, it will face a lot of issue with selling the current iPhone 8 models and the older iPhone 7 as well as iPhone 6S models, unless the company decides to kill these models next year and adopt a major overhaul for the next year. Other rumours from various sources say that Apple might be retaining the 4-inch form factor of the current model but will borrow the internals for the new model from the iPhone 7, particularly the A10 Fusion SoC.
